WARMER WEATHER

The origin of the T-Shirt dates back to the late 19th century, when laborers would cut their one-piece union suits in half to keep cool on hot days. The first manufactured tee shirts were produced for the military around the turn of the 20th century, and become standard U.S. Navy issue in 1913 as an undergarment for sailors in training. The military’s penchant for abbreviations found “Training Shirts” shortened to “T-Shirts”. The name carried into civilian life and was reinforced by the “T” shape of the garment’s body and outstretched arms.
FIT TO PRINT & PRINT TO FIT
Easily fitted & cleaned, and certainly inexpensive to produce, purchase(and replace), T shirts became a popular choice for mother’s dressing their sons for play and work; and the term “T Shirt” became part of the English language when it first appeared in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary in 1926.
Enter the Great Depression and the lowly T Shirt became the affordable choice for laborers and the common man and when the Navy first screen printed on sailor’s Training Shirts and a photo of one such sailor appeared on the cover of the July 13th, 1942 issue of LIFE magazine…the race was on!

TURNING COOLER

T Shirts garnished their “cool” factor when Marlon Brando wore one in the 1951 “A Streetcar Named Desire” and then again in 1953’s “The Wild One”. The youth culture attraction was solidified when James Dean wore a T Shirt in 1955’s “Rebel Without A Cause” and T Shirts took on an almost “edgy” aura in the eyes of mainstream America. Suddenly this one-time undergarment became fashionable. Through the 1950’s and early 1960’s, airbrushed “Weird-O” T Shirts became the rage of the auto show and hot rodding crowd, and by the late 1960’s mass produced preprinted T Shirts became advertising campaigns, souvenirs, social statements and even artistic visions.
